THE STORY

My niece Maegan and I had taken the kids to the mall to beat the heat. Our trip was cut short when Avery noticed that I had a wet spot on the back of my skirt. I asked Maegan if she could see it, thinking maybe I had gotten splashed with water while the kids were washing their hands in the bathroom. Maegan clarified, "That's not a spot, that's a big streak down the back of your dress!" Ummmm..... did my water just break???

We headed for home to drop off Maegan and the kids, and I called Danny to let him know my water may have just broken and I was going to the hospital to get checked. He was at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon loading up his passengers to fly back home, and said he'd meet me at he hospital as soon as he could!

I called my friend, Mariglo, to ask if she could take me to the hospital. She and her husband Enrique drove me, and hung out with me for about an hour until Danny arrived (for which I was so grateful). I checked in at the hospital around 1:30 in the afternoon (this was Thursday, July 8th), and all was well, no contractions, no discomfort.

They monitored me for contractions, and also the baby's heart beat, and confirmed that I had ruptured my water and was leaking amniotic fluid. Otherwise, nothing too exciting was happening. I was only 3cm when I got there and I had to BEG them not to send me home!! I was only 4 days away from my due date, and sooooooooo done with being pregnant!!

Danny showed up while they were still monitoring me. The nurse said, "Guess what? You're having a baby." YAY!!!! I was being admitted and I cannot describe my excitement and relief! I was wheeled to a L&D room and given an iv with a pitocin drip to get things started. And then we waited.....

....and waited....

....and waited.... until finally, just after 2am on Friday morning SHE CAME!!

They moved me to a postpartum room around 5am and shortly after Danny headed for home to get some sleep. I did the same with Lexis beside my bed. It had been a long night for all of us!

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Danny brought the kids over on Friday afternoon to see their new little sister. It was so much fun to see them welcome her as if they'd always known she was coming. There's something truly and spiritually amazing about watching children with their infant siblings. They're instictually family.

LOVIN' ON LEXI

Danny took Maegan and the kids home again for the night and he returned on Saturday for some daddy-daughter bonding time. We spent hours just lovin' on Lexi, getting to know her new and sweet little spirit. I told my sister-in-law I think it's a cruel trick (or maybe a great blessing) that you can endure a miserable pregnancy, despising every day, but the minute you hold that newborn baby in your arms you've already forgotten how bad the pregnancy was, and you're thinking, "I love this, I want to do it 100 times."

COMING HOME

We gave her a quick sponge bath before getting her ready to drive home- I love that drive-

We recieved a warm welcome from our awesome family. Maegan helped the kids make a big sign to hang outside our house, and Lexis and I got a big pile of cards dumped on our bed while we were snuggling. My favorite was the picture of stick figures Avery had drawn of our family, including Lexi, of course.

It's been nonstop loves and kisses every day since.
